For Love

In the park, where i did dwell,
i met a boy i love so well,
there he took my heart from me,
now, now he wants to set me free..

One day, i saw a girl on his knee,
he told her things, he never told me,
from now i know the reason why,
the girl was much prettier than i.

I run home, and cry to my bed,
not a word to mom i said,
at night my father search for me left and right,
then he found me hanging in a rope,
and on my desk a note was found,

" Dig and grave and dig it deep,
with marvel stones from head to feet,
and on my head, please put a dove,
to show people i die for love.."

Do you know the origins of this poem... In 8th grade I made an interpretation of the Scottish version but am unsure if there is an even earlier one. I was surprised to see an alternate play on the words.
