Punch Drunk

I thought by now I'd have life figured out;
Instead I'm looking for happiness
at the bottom of a bottle,
burn and thrum pulsing,
Chardonnay melodies crooned from whiskey soaked lips.

4 am and I run sobbing my frustrations
desperation calling out its lovely lies
"I love you"
but for how long?

I grew tired of never ending secrets
whisper quiet words of adoration
smothered by liquor bottles smashing
against the walls(of my heart, or so it seems).

I suppose I should have known
Have read the signs
bumpy road ahead an understatement
wrapped up in tequila memories
empty promises spilled across the table
(spilled across my mind)

I loved you
And you,
you loved
the burn
break
twist
and scream
of intoxication

Love drunk on sentiment
punch drunk on spirits.
Tore my life to pieces
twisted the cap off my heart
and drank it dry.
