Life IS Death

A few days ago, on the 29th May, my cat brought in a bird smaller than a ping-pong ball. I could barely hold it in my finger since I feared of crushing it. Now after some research I found out that it was a house wren fledgling. I went outside to look for its parents but I didn't see any nest or any wrens nearby.

At first it was paralyzed from being in a cats warm mouth. However when I picked it up it attempted to fly. When I finally let go it flew out of my hands and unto the curtain, then madly went flying up the stairs and rested on a curtain like material I have hung over the stairway. That's where I caught it gently.

I put it into a box and kept it warm. Of course it was very lively and wanted to get out. However, I knew that if I did so, the cats would get it. I have a few cats inside and outside and so I knew that letting it go would mean death.

I also noticed that when it flew it would suddenly drop down; hence why I decided to research the bird.
Hours passed and I decided to cal RSPCA. They of course didn't pick up even though I rang the emergency number. The recorded female voice told me to go to a vet to check the animal out. I of course couldn't because my local Vet was closed. The bird was doomed.

Its health got worse over the few hours and it began gasping and laying on one side. I should have noticed that the red on its beak was actually blood. I decided to give it food and sure enough it ate some food I got from my neighbour and drank some water.

I closed the doors and went downstairs. But when I came back up after 20 minutes I found it dead. Such a shame since I thought the bird was a cute creature with a whole life ahead of it. But I quickly forgave my cat, since she has had kittens and felt the need to hunt.

The death reminded me of my bird which I lost 6 years ago in 2009. It was on the 27th May. I felt guilty about forgetting my feathery friend and quickly came to the conclusion that somehow the bird was meant to die to remind me of my feathery friend I lost 6 years ago.

Such a shame to lose a life in your hands.
