I never got to say it

This is my first time on this site and after reading some of the sad experiences, it felt right to share mine. I'm currently 22 years and the 10 years passed without a day that I didn't think about my grandfather, Lorenzo. he died on Sept.9, 2011. I live in my mother's house and since she works abroad, my grandparents are the ones who are taking care of me. But ever since I was in pre-school, it was my grandfather who always brought and fetched me from school. My grandfather was a man of a few words and he never showed his love for his children or their kids. "Cari?o Brutal" as we call it or tough love. But he was a caring man but he showed it in his own way. On March 21, 1999. We just moved in to our new house and everyone was excited but granddad... [Read More]

Missing Home

I've always been closest to my grandparents. I was their favorite, you see. When I was younger, I lived with them, they cooked for me, helped me with school- everything. I hardly ever saw my parents or my siblings. My Grandmother was strict. She was the one who made sure I finished my school work and studied. I used to think of her as an annoying teacher who lives with me, watching my every movement. My Grandpa, on the other hand, was a sweetheart. He came to my every need, even slept in the same room with me because I was scared of the dark. He'd pick me up every day from school, asking me whether I was hungry, or thirsty. Every time, every time I'd reply 'No' in a very annoyed voice. I loved them with all my heart, I just didn't think much of my behavior, I never... [Read More]

The loss of Elder.

/-Mother's Mother I was sitting in my room after a day of normal school, and everything was fine, everything was normal. I heard my mother call me to her and I went to her as she stood in the hallway. She looked obviously upset, but I asked no questions so she could speak. "Grandma is in the Hospital." After that, she broke down covering me in her warm hugs. I was shocked, but I cried just for the sake of it. I felt at any time I could stop cry. I felt as if I wasn't told of what I heard. It didn't make sense, but days later we went to the Hospital, and went towards the ICU ward. We put on these yellow outfits and went in. There laid my Grandmother and my Grandfather sat beside her in a chair. I still felt nothing, but gave off a grim... [Read More]

Unopened Letters

Hello Grandma, As I write this letter to you I cannot help but be filled with pain. I have to ask as I always do... How are you doing? I'm doing fine. Whenever I sit down to write you a letter to you I try to smile. This could be like the old days. I could tell you about soccer... But that's about me. You already know everything about me. So you don't need to know about my grades, friends, or anything else. Even if I don't tell you in this letter you know. I can feel it. Today I looked out my window to see the pair of cardinals that nest here every year. My thoughts immediately returned to you. Again. Cardinals were your favorite bird. I painted one in art but I have yet to find a chance to bring it to you and Grandpa. We might be... [Read More]

Grandmothers Death - Cancer

Sam

For years she has been to sick to walk up-stairs to her bedroom to sleep. We've had to order a hospital bed, and a wheel chair for her and put it in the living room. She is afraid to be by herself and she has fought through hard times of poverty and violence. Yesterday she was 63, today she would be 64.. It seems like it was only yesterday when I saw her face, the sad lonely look gleaming from her eyes, the fear of dying from day-to-day. She was a loving women who gave and never received. She had many illnesses. Stage 4 Cancer, Diabetes, Low Blood Pressure, Pain, Paralyzed Left Lung, One Working Kidney, along with many other problems that left many doctors pondering to their self, "How does she keep going?" Day 1: One day, she went to the hospital with an asthma attack. I thought nothing... [Read More]
