I Never Knew30 Jan, 2012 03:15 PM
I don't know how it happened. It was a regular day at school. Math had just finished and I walked back to my locker with some friends. We had gotten done early so we were talking, nothing of too much importance. Out of the corner of my eye I saw three men dressed in black walk down the stairs. I could not see their faces because they had masks on. None of us saw it coming. The first one pulled out a gun and the others followed suit. We all jumped into the room next to us when they fired. They didn't fire at us but up into the ceiling, as a warning. I heard screams coming from all directions including inside myself. The leader was saying something. He was about six feet or so. He was not skinny bu not heavy. He was telling everyone to get out into the main room. All the little kids were crying and trying to hide behind the teachers or their older siblings. My own little sister was behind me. I knelt down close to her and told her it would be alright. One of my friends was next to me pale with fear. She looked at me with terrified eyes. I looked around and saw my brother but not my other sister. The three men didn't know she was gone and I was not about to let them know.
"Now, no stupidity and no one gets hurt,"
There were only four teacher, two ladies and two older men. It was a small school and we were not supposed to get out for another four hours. I knew something had to be done. The leader was talking to my math teacher, Mr. Wilson. He had Mr. Wilson take all the money he had and the money from the safe in the other room and put it into a bag. Suddenly we heard police sirens outside. All the men were now freaking out. The chief of police was outside talking on a megaphone.
"Come out slowly with your hands up and no weapons." I now knew why my little sister was missing. She was hiding in the other room calling the police.
"It's going to be ok. We will be fine" I was saying to my sister, who was still hiding behind me. One of the Men was looking out the back door and the other was on the opposite side of the school looking out one of the windows.
"Hey, boss. This side of the school is clear. There are a few bushes but I think it will work."
"Good job. Now we're going to need some insurance, if you know what I mean."
"Right. What about this kid?"
"No, he's too young he might start screaming. I think she will work. She looks old enough to know what's good for her." He said pointing to me.
"No, take me." A boy a little older than me said. I knew exactly who he was, by best friends brother.
"Hey, no talking! We made our decision and no one is changing it." He grabbed me by the arm tightly and pulled me to the window. My little sister tried running to me but was stopped by one of the teachers. I knew I would die if I tried to do anything and everyone else knew that too. Jacob (my best friend's brother) tried again to keep me in the school.
"Please, just leave her. Take me."
"Alright if your so content on coming, we'll take you both." The head guy said. One of the men opened the door slightly and I was pushed out. The leader held me in front of him. Jacob was in front of us with one of the men holding a gun to his back.
"If you make a noise we'll kill you." We made it to their car and there they tied our hands with twine. We were forced into the trunk. There was barely room for us both. There was very little light but I could still make out something. They started to drive away and I could hear them talking.
"So, boss, what are we going to do the the kids?" one of the guys said.
"I don't know. Maybe drop them off on the side of the road. Depends on how they are if they get to go back to school. If you know what I mean." I was really freaked out now.
"Jacob! Hey, did you hear that? What if they do decide to kill us."
"Cool!?!?! What are you talking about? Ar you listening?"
"No, because I was busy doing this." He then pulled his hand free from the twine.
"They are some pretty cheap crooks. Now try to turn yourself around so I can undo your hands" I did this and was soon free. Jacob then kicked the back right light out so he could see where we were. I pulled out my phone and started to text my best friend our area. Thankfully she replied with telling me that the cops were following us.
"Your sister says the cops are right behind us." As I said this the car suddenly blew a tire. It was pulled off to the side of the road and stopped. We hurried to put the rope somewhat back on our hands. They quickly opened the trunk door and pulled us out. I saw the police cars pull up and cops jump out of the cars with guns in their hands. The leader pulled me in frond of him and put a gun to my head.
"If anyone of you comes close, I'll kill her!"
"Now no need to hurt anyone. Just put the gun down." The police chief said to the man.
"I'll make the suggestions thank you. Now we are going to take her and leave and remember if anyone try's anything she dies." As he tries to walk backwards into the forest with me, Jacob tried to save me. The guy takes on shot and hits Jacob in the stomach. When he did this one of the police shoots him and kills him instantly. The other cops narrow their guns at the other thieves and they drop their weapons. I run of to where Jacob is lying on the ground in a puddle of blood. He was trying to say something.
"No, no, you did nothing wrong. You saved me!"
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you before."
"Tell me what?"
"Tell you that.... that I love you."
"I love you too, Jacob." As I said this he smiled, closed his eyes, and breathed his last.
"Nooooooooooooo! Why? Why?" I lay on his body crying, thinking to myself that I should have told him. That was the last thing I remember that day. I woke up in a hospital bed with my mother, father, and best friend next to me. They all had tear stains on their faces. "I'm sorry, Ester." "I'm sorry too." she whispered softly.
