Heartbreak in Loss

When I lost my baby, still in my womb,
I heard well-meaning sympathies
A new angel in heaven
Just wasn't meant to be
You can try again
I'm sorry.

Nothing was deep enough,
Sufficient enough to reach through the pain.

My heart was heavy
Guilt was prevalent
Blame was abound.

Why did I lose my baby?
It must be because I drank a little on New Years,
Before I knew of the baby.
It must be because he smoked,
nicotine and poison.
It must be because we didn't love each other enough.

What if I wished this baby away
because I thought I wasn't ready?
What if this was the last chance?
What if there were no more babies for me?

What if I was broken?
Slowly, so slowly,
Healing
Forgiveness
Life after loss.

Not the same, but not as devastating
Not quite as painful
As Time Heals Wounds.
